1. What is it?
The British Netflix film iBoy directed by the director Adam Randall, and starring the actor Bill Milner (William Henry “Bill” Milner) as the character Tom and the actress Maisie Williams (Margaret Constance “Maisie” Williams) as the character Lucy.
2. What’s it about?
One day a young man named Tom enters the house of one of his classmate’s, who he is supposed to be helping study for school, and he discovers the unconscious brother of his classmate and he sees some masked young men leaving his classmate’s room after they committed a crime against his classmate that they filmed with a mobile phone.
While trying to run from the masked young men while dialing for emergency services on his mobile phone, Tom is shot by one of the masked young men in his head, and Tom wakes up in the hospital and is told by the doctor that some fragments of his mobile phone are stuck in his brain and can not be safely removed.
Tom soon finds out that he now has superpowers/abilities/powers as a result of this, and he starts using his superpowers trying to find and punish and stop those responsible for the attack on his classmate and him and his community.
3. Why do you like it?
This film was better than I had expected and a lot of the music seemed to be remixed versions of some of the music from the television series Humans, I liked that it was a somewhat creative twist on a superhero origin story (even though I think that the way that the character got his superpowers was a bit stupid, but superhero origin stories are usually stupid I suppose), and I liked that it showed Tom trying to deal with real things that were threatening his community.
4. Why would someone else like it?
I think that other people will like it because it is something a bit different from the usual superhero film, it involves superpowers that involve technology that many people in our current society can better relate to than your traditional superpowers, and that Tom is more relatable and is more of an underdog in this film.
I do not like that it probably took until the end of the film for them to finally say the word for what happened to Tom’s classmate, for some reason they avoided explaining what exactly happened to his classmate for most of the film, but I could be wrong about that.
I think that the actress Margaret Constance “Maisie” Williams was underutilized in this film, and that she should have been given more things to do in this film.
I think that iBoy is worth watching at least once, and that is pretty good for a low-budget somewhat superhero-like film.
