What is it?
The 2014 Danish drama mystery horror film When Animals Dream (Når Dyrene Drømmer) that was directed by the director Jonas Alexander Arnby and stars the actor Lars Mikkelsen and the actress Sonia Suhl.
What is it about?
This is how the IMDb describes this film:
16-year old Marie lives on a small island with her seriously ill mother and her father, who takes care of the family.
But suddenly mysterious deaths happen and Marie can feel something strange happening to her body.
My Thoughts
My brother GC and I watched this film a year or two ago, instead of giving my thoughts as usual I will share what my brother GC thought about this movie, and this is what my brother GC had to say about this film:
*Possible Spoiler(s) Warning*
I saw it.
It’s basically like that movie “Let The Right One In” with a werewolf instead of a vampire and it focuses on the monster and instead of a human.
It wasn’t a terrible movie, but there were some aspects I didn’t like about it.
First of all..just like that Let The Right One In movie..this was too slow and didn’t show or explain enough to help you understand what had happened or what was going on.
Second..the werewolf design.
Really weak and underwhelming.
They basically did some makeup and added fangs and claws.
She didn’t get taller, more muscular, or anything like that.
I really don’t like that kind of werewolf design.
I like certain werewolf designs that are a bit more human-like that have less fur and more skin showing like this:
But when the werewolf just looks like someone with more hair on their face and hands, yellow eyes, fangs, and claws, like this:

That is when they lose me.
Third..the title.
It doesn’t make much sense.
“When Animals Dream”?
First of all..this movie doesn’t seem like it has anything to do with dreams or anything like that.
Second..it seems pretty clear that this girl is a werewolf.
She is not an animal.
She is a monster.
She even says she is a monster or she is turning into a monster.
She is not some regular animal like a wolf or something.
This isn’t Wolf’s Rain.
She is a mythological creäture.
The title should have been something like ‘The Monster’s Secret” or something.

The end,

I saw that movie, “Let the Right one in,” I don’t remember much of it, but I remember liking it, but not loving it. I have not seen this movie you’re talking about, but I agree, “What Animals Dream” sounds like an awesome title for a movie about something, but not about this movie. Have you seen “Underworld”? I saw the first 3, and think it is a good movie with both vampires and werewolves and has the type of werewolves you like.

Hello Lost Truth,
Nice, I saw it as well and my reaction to it is the same as yours and I watched it in Swedish with English subtitles, and it was interesting getting hear how Swedish sounds.
I definitely agree with you about that movie title, they should rename this movie because that movie title deserves to be attached to a movie that actually is about dreams.
My brother GC is a fan of werewolves, everything under Final Thoughts in this post was an edited copy and paste of a comment that he made on YouTube for the When Animals Dream trailer, but I mostly agree with him. 😉
I have definitely seen the Underworld films and I need to make a post about each of them eventually, I have seen every Underworld film in theaters, and it started with my former male classmate DH wanting me to go watch the first Underworld film with him because he was a fan of the Blade films and action movies in general (especially martial arts films).
With each new Underworld film we would go to watch them at theaters together, except for the last two which I watched with my brother GC, and so now it is like an unofficial tradition I guess. 😀
I like them and the Blade films (maybe a guilty pleasure maybe), they are not the greatest or anything, but I like the visuals (like the unique color filter whatever of the Underworld films) and some other aspects about them even with their flaws.
Thank you for commenting,
-John Jr
