What is it?
The 2011 book, 11/22/63, by Stephen King.
What is it about?
This is how Goodreads describes this book:
Life can turn on a dime—or stumble into the extraordinary, as it does for Jake Epping, a high school English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine.
While grading essays by his GED students, Jake reads a gruesome, enthralling piece penned by janitor Harry Dunning: fifty years ago, Harry somehow survived his father’s sledgehammer slaughter of his entire family.
Jake is blown away…but an even more bizarre secret comes to light when Jake’s friend Al, owner of the local diner, enlists Jake to take over the mission that has become his obsession—to prevent the Kennedy assassination.
How?
By stepping through a portal in the diner’s storeroom, and into the era of Ike and Elvis, of big American cars, sock hops, and cigarette smoke… Finding himself in warmhearted Jodie, Texas, Jake begins a new life.
But all turns in the road lead to a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald.
The course of history is about to be rewritten…and become heart-stoppingly suspenseful.
My Thoughts
This book was recommended to me by my female coworker JB who listed it as one of her favorite books, and it is a book that she would want to have if she was stranded somewhere; so thank you, JB, for recommending this book.
This book is possibly the longest book that I have read so far, it is possibly the most detailed book that I have read, it is the first Stephen King book that I have read, it is the first fiction book that I have read this year, it is the 5th book that I have read this year, it is the best fiction book that I have read this year, and I agree with JB about it being a good book to read if you were stranded somewhere.
This was a good book, but I do think that it could have been / should have been shorter, I think that would make it more accessible, and I think that the book would have been better if it were shorter; but honestly it would probably be better if there were two versions of it, the original version, and a shorter version.
This book definitely surprised me, and it had me curious about what would happen next, and I was able to visualize the story in more detail while reading it thanks to all the details and how well-written it is.
I now look forward to watching the miniseries 11.22.63 to see how well they brought this book to life in visual form.
The end,
