Final Thoughts

Of all people I found out about this television show from Grace Randolph, she mentioned it in an off-remark and she recommended it in one of her videos several years ago, and so I watched a trailer for it and it looked interesting; and it was cool to see Idris Elba as a main character so I decided to watch episode one of season 1 one day several years ago.

To my surprise I liked it and I kept watching it until I got caught up with the series, at that time season 3 had already aired, and I had to wait until season 4 aired to see it and now I just finished season 5 a week ago maybe.

I wish that I would have known about this show back when it first came out, and I wish that more people knew about it because I do not think that many people have seen this show and I can not even find a review of the 5th season on YouTube yet; and no one I follow even mentioned this season or even the last one, and so I found out about season 5 by accident.

Season 1 is without a doubt my favorite season of the series so far, Alice Morgan was a standout character for me and Ruth Wilson did a great job making her my favorite character in most of the series and one of my favorite female villains / neutral characters in recent memory, and the back and forth between Alice Morgan and John Luther was great to watch and I wished that they could have had more screen time together.

In seasons 2 and 3 I wish that Alice Morgan would have had a larger role.

The way that season 4 handled Alice Morgan, angered and annoyed me, and this is the worst season so far and I hated it; and so I retconned it basically pretending that it does not really exist.

Season 5 was better than season 4, I did not like a certain character in this season as much as I used to, and this season shocked me with a certain chain of events that shocked me and confused me and shook me and that left me thinking; and it impacted me as I realized that maybe all along we have been wrong about certain characters and were missing what was right in front of us.

Season 5 made me realize that all along there was a message somewhat hidden in plain sight that many of us viewers ignored or did not want to believe or were tricked into believing or explained away et cetera, a lesson that needed to be learned, and it did hurt and it was a risky move on their part; I have problems with it of course, but if you think about it, then it is a bit brilliant in a way.

Idris Elba was consistent in his performances as John Luther throughout these five seasons, in season 5 you possibly learned something about his character Luther, and maybe a certain character was correct about him all along; and maybe one of his own statements proved to be correct.

Each season is only a few episodes so it should not take that long to watch this television show, I definitely recommend at least watching the first season, and season 4 can be skipped mostly.

The end,

-John Jr
