What is it?
Seasons 1, 2, and 3 of the horror drama television show Penny Dreadful.
What is it about?
This is how Rotten Tomatoes describes each season:
Monsters and demons haunt Victorian London in this gothic thriller that includes some of literature’s most terrifying individuals, including Dr. Victor Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and characters from “Dracula.”.
The story begins with police investigating a series of gruesome deaths, but renowned explorer Sir Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton) and medium Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) know there is something darker at play than mere murder, as Vanessa fights a demon that is determined to possess her.
Also, Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) joins a group of vampire hunters; Dr. Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway) faces the consequences of his death-defying experiments; and devil-may-care Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney) falls for the alluring but troubled Vanessa.
Series 2 of Penny Dreadful finds Vanessa Ives locked in a battle against a fearsome devil intent on possessing her.
Ethan becomes entwined in the affairs of a group of London vampire hunters and falls in love with a prostitute whose terrible fate may have already been sealed.
Dr. Frankenstein is forced to confront the consequences of his grizzly deed; and Brona Croft confronts the reality of her horrifying predicament.
Season 3 of “Penny Dreadful” finds Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett), Sir Malcom Murray (Timothy Dalton) and Drs. Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway) and Jekyll (Shazad Latif) spread across the world, battling their own personal demons.
With Dracula (Christian Camargo) threatening London, Vanessa (Eva Green) reaches out to Dr. Seward (Patti LuPone) for help with her quest against both her own darkness and that threatening the city.
Meanwhile, Lily (Billie Piper) and Dorian (Reeve Carney) build a female revolution.
Final Thoughts
I would not have known about this television show if it were not for the Suddenlink Communications Blog (that no longer exists), they had it listed in their top television shows of the year several years ago, and so I decided to watch the first episode.
I did not expect to like it but to my surprise I did, and so my brother GC and I started watching it until we got caught up and eventually we finished the series.
It was great to see and hear Eva Green, who did a good job as usual, and the visual quality and acting and the show itself was among the best that we saw at that time.
It is a shame that most people have never heard of it or seen it and probably will never see or hear of it, I do not like the way that it ended and it probably ended a season too soon, but it is a show that is worth watching and I am glad that I got to see it a couple of years ago; and I recommend watching it if you get a chance one day.
The end,
