Set against the coming of Christianity, this is the story of the last hero: in 507, a monstrous troll wreaks havoc in the mead hall of Danish King Hrothgar (Sir Anthony Hopkins).

He offers rewards for the death of Grendel (Crispin Glover), so Beowulf (Ray Winstone), a great and boastful Geat warrior, arrives with his thanes.

Beowulf sets aside his armor and awaits the monster.

Beowulf returns to Herot, the castle, and becomes King.

My Thoughts

I saw this movie in a movie theater in the city of LC back when it came out in 2007.

It was a work day back when I was working at the L Binding Service, my anxiety levels were high at the time, and I was possibly going to be somewhat late for work as I drove to work.

One of my team leaders had previously told me that it was better to call in for the day off than it is to show up late because if you show up late you will get written up.

You could get fired after getting written up only a few times.

So I called my team leader as I drove into the parking lot at work to ask for the day off.

My anxiety levels were very high, and I was given the day off, and I immediately made the random decision to drive to the city of LC to watch a movie.

I did not want to return home letting it be known that I had asked for the day off and maybe among other reasons, and so I drove to the city of LC hoping to calm down a bit.

I went to the movie theater at the mall and I decided to watch Beowulf, but the current showing of it was already playing.

So I would have to wait, and so I decided to drive to the beach to walk around until it was time.

On my way to do this, I met my former male coworkers C and S outside the movie theater when I was walking away to leave.

They had recently been fired several weeks before because of some incident where they allegedly accidentally infected a computer with malware when they were trying to download some music or something like that.

So this was a surprise to see them here in the city of LC like this.

We briefly talked about how they were living in the city of LC now.

C was possibly working at IHOP and S was possibly working at Dollar Tree, and about the incident that got them fired and how things were at the L Binding Service now, et cetera.

Then we said goodbye and went our separate ways.

I drove to the beach, it was evening or night, and I walked around the beach until at some point I decided to sit down near the playground.

A somewhat older man with light-color skin drove up and parked, he got out, and he walked over toward me, I had my pocket knife in my pocket ready if necessary as he approached in the darkness.

He greeted me, and he sat down across from me, we started talking.

We ended up having a good long conversation about: life, religion, the past, culture change, jobs, the economy, memories, family, et cetera until it was time for me to leave to catch the next showing of Beowulf.

So I said goodbye, and I drove back to the movie theater.

I watched the movie, I have only seen this movie once so this was back in 2007, but from the little that I remember the movie was not as good as I had expected it to be; but it was not bad.

This movie had more of an action focus if I remember correctly, I liked how it showed the rise and fall and flaws of Beowulf, and I remember Angelina Jolie standing out as the character Grendel’s Mother; and the combination of live action and computer animation was interesting.

I probably felt better than I had felt previously that day, so my anxiety levels were probably lower.

I drove back home, and I have not really thought about this movie or talked about it much since then, back in 2007.
