What is it?

The 2018 Japanese anime (animated) television show Violet Evergarden.

What is it about?

This is how MyAnimeList describes this anime television show:

The Great War finally came to an end after four long years of conflict; fractured in two, the continent of Telesis slowly began to flourish once again.

Caught up in the bloodshed was Violet Evergarden, a young girl raised for the sole purpose of decimating enemy lines.

Hospitalized and maimed in a bloody skirmish during the War’s final leg, she was left with only words from the person she held dearest, but with no understanding of their meaning.

Recovering from her wounds, Violet starts a new life working at CH Postal Services after a falling out with her new intended guardian family.

There, she witnesses by pure chance the work of an “Auto Memory Doll,” amanuenses that transcribe people’s thoughts and feelings into words on paper.

Moved by the notion, Violet begins work as an Auto Memory Doll, a trade that will take her on an adventure, one that will reshape the lives of her clients and hopefully lead to self-discovery.

My Thoughts

This show has some of the most beautiful animation that I have seen.

Episode 7 (Nameless) made me shed a tear from my right eye during the lake jump scene.

Unfortunately this show was not as good as I had expected and hoped, it was longer than it should have been, and it did not focus on Violet Evergarden’s story enough; I was hoping for more scenes from before and during the war et cetera.

It was not bad but if they had shortened it and had more action and information about the politics of the world et cetera, it would have been better, because they did not do a good job explaining the world.

The few moments of action were good, and it would be cool to see more things with this level of animation.

Hello, I am John Jr, welcome.

  1. Sounds like I enjoyed this series much more than you did. I agree it wasn’t an action packed anime. Perhaps they could have added more battles my featuring further episodes set during the war.

Nameless was a tearjerker, as was the episode starring the mother and daughter. Overall I was satisfied with the show’s length. They hd a good mix of Violet settling down to a new life and standalone adventures.

    1. Hello The Otaku Judge,

Yeah, it was not bad though, and it looked beautiful.

I think they could have done more in flashbacks instead of adding more episodes.

Yeah, that episode had some moments as well, but I did not drop a manly tear on that one. 😀

I am glad that it was not longer, my gut reaction is to say that I disagree, but it is probably just the way they went about that which my brother GC and I did not like as much as you.

I am glad that Netflix had an anime like this though.

      Thank you for commenting,
