Set in Edwardian England, this new adaptation of H.G. Wells’ seminal tale – the first alien invasion story in literature – follows George (played by Rafe Spall) and his partner Amy (Eleanor Tomlinson) as they attempt to survive a war from something that could almost be too hard to believe.
A war with Martians. The War of the Worlds tells their story as they face the escalating terror of an alien invasion, fighting for their lives against an enemy beyond their comprehension.
My Thoughts
This miniseries was very disappointing, it had the visuals, it had the acting, it had the time period, it was very British, but it was: boring, it was slow, not much happened, the main character’s relationship drama was annoying and necessary, it was incomplete, and it all fell flat and we just wanted it to end.
I would rate this a 2 out of 5.
This had so much potential that was wasted, and so this is one of those rare times that the American version(s) is/are better than the British version.
Sadly this miniseries ended up being a waste of our time, and so I hope to see the new French/American(?) TV show version soon to hopefully wash away this disappointment.
