What is it?

The 2008 French crime drama movie Julia.

What is it about?

This is how Rotten Tomatoes describes this movie:

Julia, 40, is an alcoholic. She is a manipulative, unreliable, compulsive liar, all strung out beneath her still flamboyant exterior.

Between shots of vodka and one-night stands, Julia gets by on nickel-and-dime jobs.

Increasingly lonely, the only consideration she receives comes from her friend Mitch, who tries to help her. But she shrugs him off, as her alcohol-induced confusion daily reinforces her sense that life has dealt her a losing hand and that she is not to blame for the mess she has made of it.

Glimpsing imminent perdition, and after a chance encounter with Elena, a Mexican woman, Julia convinces herself–as much in panic and despair as for financial gain–to commit a violent act.

As the story unfolds, Julia’s journey becomes a headlong flight on a collision course, but somehow she makes the choice of life over death.

My Thoughts

The memories the memories, I am the only person I know that has seen this movie or heard of this movie, and I found out about it years ago by accident.

It was during the day in the city of D when I went to the newest and one of the last video rental stores to ever exist in our city, it was my first time visiting this new video rental store, and maybe one of my brothers was with me (maybe GC or CC).

We were looking around at movies and video games et cetera, I ended up seeing the DVD cover for this movie, Tilda Swinton is one of my favorite actresses and had been good in every movie that I had seen her in at that point so I decided to rent this movie even though I had never heard of it before.

I saw the movie and I returned it and the video game, and I possibly only went to this video rental store again one time after that because it went out of business very quickly.

I only saw this movie once years ago and I seem to be the only person I know who saw it so I have not really talked about it over the years or thought about it much, but I did have a dream inspired by it that had Tilda Swinton in it playing the role of her character Julia from this movie.

Amazingly I still remember that in this movie I got to see and hear Tilda Swinton like never before where her character Julia wore makeup, was an alcoholic whose life was in downward spiral, wore skimpy outfits, had a different accent, had longer curlier orange/red hair, and more.

I remember that she struggled at work because of her poor life choices and her addiction and her personality, that things spiraled even further out of control quickly when she made some very bad and unethical decisions, part of the movie took place in Mexico, and you got to see some character development among some of the characters with a surprising and tense ending.

The end,
