What is it?
The 2019 science fiction horror movie Vivarium.
What is it about?
This is how Rotten Tomatoes describes this movie:
Tom and Gemma (Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Poots) are looking for the perfect home.
When a strange real-estate agent takes them to Yonder, a mysterious suburban neighborhood of identical houses, Tom and Gemma can’t leave quick enough.
But when they try to exit the labyrinth-like housing development, each road takes them back to where they started.
Soon, they realize their search for a dream home has plunged them into a terrifying nightmare, in this taut thriller filled with white-knuckle suspense.
When I saw the trailer for this movie I knew that I wanted to watch this movie, the trailer was weird and different, and it looked like something that I might like; and so I planned to watch it when it came out.
I had somewhat high hopes for this movie, and so I was hoping to not be disappointed; and fortunately I was not disappointed.
This movie pretty much met my expectations, it was pretty good and it kept my attention thanks to the mystery and weirdness and the performances, and Imogen Poots had the best performance and/or character in my opinion; and Jesse Eisenberg did a pretty good job as well.
This movie is a bit psychological and combines mystery, science fiction, horror, a bit of surrealism et cetera that combine in a way to make you as the audience somewhat feel or imagine what the characters are going through or what you would do in their situation.
This movie is like being trapped in a never-ending nightmare or quicksand-like dream, and I never found it to be boring to my surprise; and I tried to imagine what would I do if I were in that situation.
This movie showed what can happen to people and their relationships in a situation like this.
This movie gives some hints here and there of what it may be about but it does not give you all the answers so it leaves things open to interpretation, there are unanswered and unasked questions that only slightly bothered me, I was able to accept this more than I usually would because this movie does this intentionally and it makes sense for the type of movie it is.
A place artificially arranged for keeping or raising living animals.
The movie had a brave ending that most movies would not risk, and it surprised my brother GC and I.
I was impressed by this movie and what they were able to accomplish on a low-budget, it was filmed well, directed well, acted well, had an interesting concept, was unique, et cetera; and is one of the best movies that I have seen this year.
It is a shame that most people will never hear about it or watch it.
I recommend watching this movie at least once.
