What is it?
The 2020 horror movie Gretel & Hansel (Gretel & Hansel: A Grim Fairy Tale).
What is it about?
This is how Rotten Tomatoes describes this movie:
A long time ago in a distant fairytale countryside, a young girl (Sophia Lillis, It) leads her little brother (Sammy Leakey) into a dark wood in desperate search of food and work, only to stumble upon a nexus of terrifying evil.
My Thoughts
I heard about this movie thanks to a YouTube video called GRETEL & HANSEL MOVIE REVIEW 2020 | Double Toasted by the YouTube channel Double Toasted:
This movie was a slow burn that felt longer than it really was, the opening shot with the two main characters was filmed in a way that reminded me of something from a Wes Anderson movie, and the cinematography throughout the movie was pretty good.
This movie had a unique look that was old but slightly modern, the architecture of some buildings was unique, and there were some creepy imagery and dreams.
Unfortunately this movie does not explain enough about the characters, the world, the lore, the magic, et cetera which hurt this movie.
This is a movie that some people will think is boring and feels long, and so do not watch it when you are tired; fortunately that did not bother me as much when I watched it.
This movie had more potential, there was some cool moments that I want explained and shown in more details, it is more of an art film.
I think that it is worth watching at least once for something a bit different, it could be better if someone did some editing and added more information for the viewer, and if they showed more of the magic.
The end,
