The 2002 Brazilian crime movie City Of God (Cidade De Deus).
My Thoughts
When I first saw this movie years ago I had no idea what I was getting into, with a name like City Of God I probably thought that it was going to be a religious movie or an adventure movie, but boy was I wrong. 😀
I am surprised that I almost forgot about this movie and that nobody I know has talked about this movie as far as I can remember, I do not remember much of it oddly, but I do remember it probably being good / realistic enough that it felt a bit like a documentary instead of just a movie at times.
The closest movie to it that I can think of is the movie Beasts Of No Nation, neither movie is a feel good movie, they are more negative in a good movie way, but even though both are good well made movies they are not the type of movies that you usually want to watch again because of the subject matter and how they make you feel, like the anime movie Grave Of The Fireflies.
I remember it presenting a shocking, brutal, and risky view of gangs and crime and poverty and corruption et cetera especially involving children.
