What is it?
The 2011 science fiction drama art movie Melancholia.
Here is how The IMDb describes this movie:
Two sisters find their already strained relationship challenged as a mysterious new planet threatens to collide with Earth.
My Thoughts
This movie is more of a slow burn art film with a few beautiful scenes of unique camera work with good classic movie music that actually sets a depressive mood while also exploring melancholia / depression & relationships with a focus on family.
I saw this movie once years ago, but I am not sure if I found out about it because Charlotte Gainsbourg was in it and / or if I found out about it in some kind of other way.
I possibly saw some clips of those beautiful & uniquely filmed scenes, and that along with part of the description of the story probably made me watch it.
Here are two clips of part of two of those scenes:
*Spoiler Warning For This Scene*
I remember there being a big wedding at a mansion with a large yard, I remember there being family drama, personal drama with depression / melancholia with one of the sisters, a rogue planet headed toward Earth, et cetera.
I remember this movie leaving a certain mood / feeling with me that lingered after watching it.
It was one of those movies that makes you feel things that the artist wants the audience to feel, that makes you think, and that has you wondering what you really thought about the movie at the end.
It is definitely not a movie for everyone & it probably was not as good as it could have been, but in some ways it was artistic.
The end,
