What is it?
The 2021 Netflix American science fiction movie Outside The Wire.
My Thoughts
When I first saw the trailer for this movie it looked like something that I would not normally want to watch, but several things made me want to watch it.
Normally this is not something that I think about or care about but the fact that the lead two characters in this war military science fiction movie were people who would be considered black, which is very rare in this genre especially, made me want to see this movie & give it a chance just because of this pleasant surprise of diversity; and it somewhat reminded me of the Black Mirror (Season 3) episode Men Against Fire.
I never really felt that Anthony Mackie fit well in action movie roles or main character roles that I have seen him in until now.
I actually think that he did a good job playing this character & doing some good action scenes to my surprise.
This movie does have some flaws like not enough back story for characters or the world or the lore et cetera, the look & tone is going to probably not connect with some people, some things like the dated & futuristic technology do not make much sense, and the movie left unanswered questions.
I still liked this movie better than any critic review that I have read or seen so far, even with its flaws it still connected with me more than expected like Men Against Fire, it did not impact me as much as that episode did; and it is not a great movie, but it was an average or slightly above average movie that worked well enough for me.
This movie showed & brought up some things about war et cetera from the point-of-view of the soldiers & civilians that are not often in these types of movies, which is something that I liked, but it did not explore them as deeply as I would have liked.
I liked Anthony Mackie’s & Emily Beecham’s performances in this movie, but I did not like Damson Idris’s performance as much; and Emily & Anthony had much better chemistry than Anthony & Damson had, and so maybe they should have switched roles.
Others might not like it that much, but I would recommend watching this movie once at least; and I would rate it a 3.5 out of 5.
The end,
