What Is It?
The 2022 Japanese anime (animated) TV show Shenmue The Animation (Season 1).
Here is how Wikipedia describes this anime TV show:
Shenmue the Animation, also known simply as Shenmue, is a Japanese anime television series based on the Shenmue video game series by Yu Suzuki and published by Sega.[1] A co-production between Crunchyroll and Adult Swim, the series aired from February to May 2022.[2][3] A Japanese streaming release followed in April 2022. Shortly after its streaming debut in Japan, it was decided that a televised broadcast of the series would commence a month later on Tokyo MX in May 2022. The anime series adapts the storyline of the first two games, Shenmue and Shenmue II.
After he witnesses his father’s murder at the family dojo, Ryo Hazuki dedicates his life to finding the man responsible – a mission that takes him from the streets of Yokosuka, Japan, to the sprawling metropolis of Hong Kong and beyond. Ryo will learn that larger, mystical forces are at play as he trains to become the ultimate martial artist in his quest for revenge.[4]
My Thoughts
My brother GC and I watched this anime on Toonami.
This anime probably has the worst English dub / voice acting that my brother GC and I have heard in a televised anime in the modern / current anime era.
The voice acting was so bad sometimes that it was good, in the make you laugh kind of way.
We did not like this anime, but we did enjoy the unintentional comedy from things like the bad voice acting, et cetera.
We were glad that this season was not that long, and I am glad that this season is over.
This anime also sometimes had some of the worst and laziest and most recycled animated background characters, inexcusably bad.
Some of the backgrounds and animation were pretty good at times, though, and it was good to have an anime with a martial arts focus.
But I would not recommend this anime other for a laugh or a highlight of the best & funniest (worst) parts.
This is pretty embarrassing for Crunchyroll and Adult Swim, I expected better than this, I am concerned for their future projects.
I would probably rate this a 2 – 3 out of 5.
The end,
