My Thoughts

Brother Phil made me laugh with this line about most of these sundown towns: “They broke, they’re struggling, they dusty.”. 🤣

Years ago, when I was younger, my family and I briefly stopped in Vidor, Texas at a Dairy Queen and maybe a gas station when we were on our way to vacation somewhere.

As we entered Vidor, my parent’s told us about some bad stories that they had heard about this city.

My parent’s decided to take a risk and stop, probably because we needed gas, they decided to get something to eat quickly before getting gas, and then continue our journey.

When we entered the Dairy Queen, it was like a movie about the segregation days.

Everyone in the Dairy Queen, who all happen to have light-color skin, including the employees, stopped what they were doing.

They all just stared at us with mean hateful racist facial expressions saying nothing like they did not want us there.

I remember the somewhat older waitress looking at us with the most hateful facial expression(s), I could feel / sense the negativity / evil from her and the others, we did not feel welcome at all.

We probably said hello and paused for a moment to give them a chance, but nothing changed.

So we did not waste our time or money there, we left, maybe got gas, and never stopped in that city again; and I have no plans on ever stopping in that dusty place again.
