What is it?

The 2013 Japanese anime (animated) movie Hunter × Hunter: The Last Mission.

Hunter x Hunter: The Last Mission – Official Theatrical Trailer

What is it about?

This is how Rotten Tomatoes describes this anime (animated) movie:

Nen: the hidden source of energy and potential that runs through everyone, and gives those that master it a source of great power.

Inside Nen is the potential for limitless light and limitless darkness.

The Hunter Association has arisen to control access to it.

Hunters come in many shapes and forms, and with many different appetites – but all of them have learned to master Nen, and use it to chase wealth, power, and their dreams.

The greatest and most powerful Hunter is Isaac Netero, chairman of the Hunter Association.

Decades ago he sealed away Jed, a Hunter who had mastered the use of On, the dark “shadow” of Nen.

Now On, users have reappeared at the Heaven’s Arena “Battle Olympia” tournament.

For Netero, this is the last mission: to protect the Association and the world from a threat driven by hatred and the thirst for revenge.

And he’s going to need all the help he can get in order to succeed.

My Thoughts

This movie had a good start with better animation, a more serious start, et cetera but unfortunately it became what felt more like a longer average episode of Hunter x Hunter.

Hunter x Hunter deserves a better movie than this, it was not bad though, but it was just average and it did not cover or better explain things that I wanted to see covered and explained.

This movie had none of the great moments like in the show, and so some episodes were better than this movie.

The end,

This is how Fandom describes this scene:

Meruem’s claim of checkmate to Netero continues as they fight to the death.

In his final stand, Netero activates his most powerful attack, the Zero Hand, which does little to no damage to the King.

However, it was Meruem who had been in checkmate all along when Netero activates the Poor Man’s Rose.

Gyro’s Past | Hunter x Hunter (2011) | Evil × And × Terrible

What is it?

Here is a YouTube video that is a clip of one of the best scenes (unfortunately the English version was removed so I had to use the original Japanese version which is not as good in my opinion) that I have seen so far in the anime television show Hunter x Hunter (2011) from episode 80 (Evil × And × Terrible) that was the back story of a character named Gyro that we never even got to see in the show but they still took the time to tell an emotional short story about his rough life:

Japanese Dub Part 1

Gyro’s Past

Japanese Dub Part 2

Gyro’s Past 2

What is it about?

This is how Fandom describes this:

Gyro, in his childhood, experienced many abuses from his drunk father.

Getting beaten, learning to sleep without any emotions or movement in fear of making a sound in bed that might wake his father, even learning to control his bladder at night.

Even so, he still saw his father as a God from the lesson, “Don’t make trouble for others” and Gyro took by that advice. No matter how cruel his father would be, he continued to idolize him for two reasons: when Gyro was five, he got a fever that almost killed him, but his father stayed all night taking care of him and his father never asked or ordered him to leave from their home.

However, Gyro’s feelings towards his father changed when a guy from his work revealed that the only reason his father let him stay was because he brought money and his neighbor was the one who actually took care of him when he was sick. His father did nothing. Gyro snapped after hearing the truth and attacked the guy, but was badly beaten. Bloody on the ground, his father glanced at him while walking by and never helped him. He now knew his father never cared for him and the lessons he taught were for his own benefits. He realized that the world never gave him a single thing. He stood up, grabbed a hammer and killed his father. Nine years later, Gyro founded and ruled NGL, to ruin life by distributing Drug D². In the present, Yunju’s team has killed Gyro’s soldiers and took over the hidden drug factory.
