Here is how Wikipedia describes this song:
“Bachelorette is a song recorded by Icelandic singer Björk for her third studio album Homogenic (1997).[a]
Released as its second single on 1 December 1997, the song was originally written for a film by Bernardo Bertolucci, but the project was withdrawn.
The lyrics for “Bachelorette” were written by Sjón, a friend and collaborator of the singer.
The song’s accompanying music video was noted for its surrealistic art direction, leading to a win at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards.
Music And Lyrics
Björk wrote about the writing process of “Bachelorette” on her website:
Because I wanted the lyrics to be so epic, I got my friend Sjón – who’s a poet in Iceland – to write them.
We sat together at the kitchen table and drank a lot of red wine and I told him the whole story for hours and days, and he wrote the words from that story.[3]
“Bachelorette” is emotionally charged and theatrical, following Homogenic‘s theme of “beats and strings”, but also includes instruments such as timbales, timpani, Alp horn and accordion, among others, which helped make the song stronger and more dramatic.
Björk described the song’s lyrical theme as “Isobel goes to the city”.
I’m a fountain of blood
In the shape of a girl
You’re the bird on the brim
Hypnotized by the WhirlDrink me, make me feel real
Wet your beak in the stream
Game we’re playing is life
Love is a two-way dreamLeave me now, return tonight
Tide will show you the way
If you forget my name
You will go astray
Like a killer whale
Trapped in a bayI’m a path of cinders
Burning under your feet
You’re the one who walks me
I’m your one way streetI’m a whisper in water
Secret for you to hear
You are the one who grows distant
When I beckon you nearLeave me now, return tonight
The tide will show you the way
If you forget my name
You will go astray
Like a killer whale
Trapped in a bayI’m a tree that grows hearts
One for each that you take
You’re the intruder hand
I’m the branch that you break
Hum-yeah!Source: LyricFind

Clouds of another life
Wash across the sunlight
Changing shape as they go by
Thought I saw your face there
But like them
You just disappear
Disappear into empty sky
Quietly
And so removed from reason
Hey
Have you ever had to reason?
Hey
The eagle comes and goes
To somewhere much higher
When the silence grows
Can you hear it, sniper?
Visions and memories
Where someone once laid flowers
For the past and things to come
Thought you were gone
But I can feel you
So I
Turn around
Turn around yes, and there you are
Here again
Can you give it some meaning?
Hey
Ask again, but you say nothing
Hey
Motion with no sound
Ice inside the fire
The stillness in the storm
Silence hides the sniper
Eagles come and go
To someplace much higher
And when the silence grows
Can you hear it, sniper?
What goes through your sniper’s mind?Songwriters: Tim Jensen / 菅野 よう子”
