What is it?
The 2017 American live action science fiction action film Ghost In The Shell which was directed by Rupert Sanders.
What is it about?
This is how the Rotten Tomatoes describes this film:
In the near future, Major (Scarlett Johansson) is the first of her kind: A human saved from a terrible crash, who is cyber-enhanced to be a perfect soldier devoted to stopping the world’s most dangerous criminals.
When terrorism reaches a new level that includes the ability to hack into people’s minds and control them, Major is uniquely qualified to stop it.
As she prepares to face a new enemy, Major discovers that she has been lied to: her life was not saved, it was stolen.
She will stop at nothing to recover her past, find out who did this to her and stop them before they do it to others.
Based on the internationally acclaimed Japanese Manga, “The Ghost in the Shell.”
Final Thoughts
I think that this film did a pretty good job with the visuals but the movie itself was empty and was just a shell that looked somewhat like Ghost In The Shell, but it did not feel or seem like Ghost In The Shell in my opinion.
This film took some parts of the Ghost In The Shell animated movies and television shows and combined them and changed some parts oddly, some important things were not explained, some characters had no names and most characters had no character development or hardly any role, and this film just disappointed me which is disappointing because I wanted to like it.
I would probably give this film a 5 out of 10.
They should have just made another animated Ghost In The Shell movie instead.
I am tired of most American remakes et cetera being worse than the originals, and I am tired of failed animation to live action projects.
Please stop remaking and re-imagining things if you are going to make it worse, and please stop trying to unnecessarily change things that are animated into live action because not everything needs to be live action because some of the most emotional and powerful things that I have seen have been animated instead of live action.
Still, you can tell that some hard work and effort did go into making this film and that they tried, and so they deserve praise for the visuals and for trying but they missed some of the most important parts of Ghost In The Shell so this film was mostly a pretty shell with no ghost in my opinion.
I think that you are better off watching the animated Ghost In The Shell films: Ghost In The Shell (1995 Film), Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence, and Ghost In The Shell: The New Movie and / or watching the Ghost In The Shell television shows Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig and Ghost In The Shell: Arise.
Ghost In Shell (1995 Film) is considered to be the best of the films by some:
Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence is considered by some to be the most strange of the films, but it will make you think:
Ghost In The Shell: The New Movie is considered by some to be the film that better explores the relationship between and information about the characters who eventually become members of Public Security Section 9:
There was an animated Ghost In The Shell television movie called Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex – Solid State Society but it was the worst and most disappointing of the animated movies so I usually try to pretend that it does not exist, I could not find an official trailer for it on YouTube, and so here is a review with spoilers of this movie by the YouTube channel BennettTheSage in a video called Anime Abandon – Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society:
